I’m sat in the cream-colored cotton tent erected temporarily for Nikhil Chopra’s ‘Coal On Cotton’ at WhItworth Art Gallery. It billows gently in the breeze, a breeze intermingled with whispered conversations from the audience as Chopra in his laborer’s outfit of black workboots, white overalls and grey wool flatcap, complementing the shades of his materials, fills the room with an uncanny presence.
